This is how we cutplug herring up at Joes Salmon Lodge, and back home in Oregon. My dad and I have both caught a 52 lb salmon with this method. I got mine last year in 2025 and my dad caught his around 2009. We do it this way to get our lines back in the water as fast as possible.
