A LITTLE JOE’S SALMON LODGE HISTORY FOR YOU:
Clay Nygard and Doug Stuffco have been fishing and Guiding on B.Cs Central Coast from a very young age . Clays father Clair and his friends including the original owner of Joes Lodge , Joe Vilidka were fishing the central coast of B.C. before there were any Lodges in the area . These adventurers soon discovered, the unsurpassed bounty of Giant Tyee Salmon, huge Northern Coho Salmon , Pink Salmon , plentiful Halibut , aggressive Lingcod , and fantastic bottom fishing within this magnificently beautiful setting . These pioneers became “ legends of the Pass “ and schooled Clay and Doug on the fishing techniques , hot locations , dedication , and the love of sport fishing in this awesome unique area of the B.C. Coast .
The idea was hatched and Joe went to work putting together “ Joes Salmon Lodge “ so they could share this area with other fishermen . Joes lodge was opened for business in the summer of 1985 . A cozy lodge with plumbing in every room , the unmatched quality of the gear including custom 17 foot Montauk Boston Whaler Boats , and fantastic customer service soon made Joes Salmon Lodge a special place to be ! Clay and Doug loved their jobs and took pride in wearing many hats as Guides , Dock boys, fish cleaners , and experts at customer service during these early years .
Clay Nygard took over ownership of Joes Lodge in the summer of 1990 . Doug Stuffco became part owner in the summer of 2000 . Clay and Doug have worked hard together over these years to maintain and build onto the unmatched history and spirit of Joes Lodge in the famed Hakai Pass . For over twenty five years now, hardcore fishermen and their families alike have enjoyed the spectacular fishing , and the raw beauty of Hakai Pass that Joes Salmon lodge provides . Clay , Doug , and the original “Legends of the Pass “ have made Joes Salmon Lodge the premiere
fishing location on the B,C. Coast .
Clay and Doug have resisted growing the lodge beyond its present capacity of 18 to 36 guests . Instead Joes Salmon Lodge focuses on what has always been important to Clay , Doug and the “ legends of Hakai “ .
